The Category B Licence, allows vehicles to be coupled with a trailer up to 750kgs MAM (allowing a combined weight up to 4.25 tonnes MAM), or a trailer over 750kgs providing the MAM of the trailer does not exceed the unladen weight of the towing vehicle and the combination does not exceed 3.5 tonnes MAM.

To Tow heavier trailers then category B+E would be needed.

The Category B+E licence allows vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes MAM to be combined with trailers in excess of 750kgs MAM. In order to gain the entitlement new category B licence holders have to pass a further practical test for category B+E. There is no category B+E theory test. For driver licensing purposes there are no vehicle/trailer weight ratio limits for category B+E.

We offer experienced instruction using our own vehicle.

We would recommend that all prospective students take advantage of our Driver Assessment. The assessment not only gives the student an insight into what is involved in driving B+E, but also one of our instructors the opportunity to evaluate the number of training days required for the student to reach the D.S.A. Test standard.

The assessment is for two hours and includes reversing on our own large manoeuvring area, as well as driving on the Public Highway. Assessments are normally conducted Monday-Saturday between 8.00a.m. and 4.00p.m. Although a limited number are available on evenings and weekends.

Courses are normally conducted between 8.00a.m and 4.00p.m Monday-Saturday. A Training Day will be for four hours (one student to one instructor). Evening training (during the summer months) from 4.00p.m is also available.

Passing a B+E driving test allows you to tow a trailer above 750kg and exceed the 3500kg train weight limit.
